1,000 Policemen Guard MPR Chairman Election

Jakarta Police deploy 1,000 personnel to secure the process of People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman election in MPR/DPR building on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (10/7). To make the meeting run smoothly, Jakarta Police also deploy Gegana bomb squad and K-9 trained dog handler team.

“To secure MPR chairman election, 500 personnel are already standby around the building and there are also 500 backup personnel,” stated Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto.

According to Rikwanto, those 1,000 policemen are joint forces from Jakarta Police and some police sectors in Jakarta.

“All units are deployed to anticipate security and discipline disturbances. We also deploy Traffic Unit to regulate the traffic if there was demonstration action around the building,” he uttered.

In addition, Rikwanto disclosed that the security in Jakarta is tightened after clash between FPI and the police in front of the City Council (DPRD) building on Friday (10/3). In that incident, some policemen were wounded and 21 FPI members were named as suspects.
