Events at Monas will Be Limited

Jakarta Provincial Government will reduce the events held at National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta, in order to minimize the grass being stepped on and to maintain cleanliness.
Indeed, next year we’re going to reduce the events held in Monas, events that are held until night and crowded with many people
“Indeed, next year we’re going to reduce the events held in Monas, events that are held until night and crowded with many people,” stated Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, Tuesday (10/28).
According to Basuki, this policy is conducted because Monas Implementation Unit (UP) is not yet ready to manage events that potentially attract many people. But if Monas UP has ready, it is possible for the citizens to hold events in Monas again.
Polluted, Monas Gold Gets Dull“If we could handle it (event) well, we promise that the visitors coming into Monas must also discipline, tolerance, and understand each other,” he said.
Basuki disclosed that one of the difficulties faced by Monas UP when an event is held is the rampant existence of street vendors. As a result, Monas visitors’ convenience is also disturbed.
“Many visitors complained about the rampant existence of street vendors that disturbed their convenience. Moreover, after the event finished, trashes were left carelessly,” he told.
As known, when Jakarta was led by Joko Widodo, some high scale events were held at Monas. Among those events were Jakarta International Performing Art (JIPA), Grand Finale of Abang None Jakarta, Regional Creative Products Week (PPKD) or PRJ Monas, and Jakarta Religious Night Festival.
