Parking Attendants will Be Equipped with Metal Detector GPS

Besides to change the payment system of meter parking by using electronic money, Jakarta Transportation Department will also equip the parking attendants with Global Positioning System (GPS) device that could detect vehicles. This policy is planned to be implemented next year.

“By using GPS, parking attendants could know which vehicle owners who did not pay the parking meter. The device works like metal detector, but it is already connected with a machine and central server belongs to the meter parking operator,” uttered Head of Jakarta Parking Management Unit (UP), Sunardi Sinaga, Wednesday (10/29).

After getting the device, Sinaga continued, parking attendants will cycling around the vehicles parked then attach the device to the vehicles’ license plates.

“The device will give response to the vehicles that have not paid the parking fee. If the parking time suited with the payment on the parking meter machine, the detector lamp on the device will not light,” he explained.

For vehicle owners who did not pay the parking meter, Sinaga told that their vehicles will be towed and they must pay retribution for as much as Rp 500 thousand.

“We will not be indiscriminate to on-street parking actors who do not obey the rules,” he asserted.
