The Thousand Islands Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency has completed repair of the breakwater to absorb the energy of the waves that hit it on the north side of Untung Jawa Island, Untung Island Jawa Urban Village, South Thousand Islands Sub-district.
The barrier stretches for 422 meters covering the areas of RT 01/03, RT 02/02 and RT 03/03. This repair project includes, reinstalling the cube, installing wire gabions and casting the top of the barrier.
Eleven Breakwater Embankments on Residential Islands InstalledThousand Islands SDA Sub-agency Head Abdul Rouf said, the barrier collapsed after being hit by waves last June.
"Then we immediately repaired it in stage by sending 24 personnel and it was finished last month," he told.
By so, the settlements on Untung Jawa Island would be safe from waves that might trigger inundation or flooding.
"Certainly this can reduce the risk of abrasion and tidal wave," he stated.
