Connecting Bridge at TIM Collapsed, 4 Workers Died

Connecting bridge on the second floor of Jakarta Library and Archives Building at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Cikini Urban Village, Menteng Sub-District, Central Jakarta, collapsed this morning, Friday (10/31). Because of this incident, four workers died and five people injured because of falling debris.

The incident happened around 6.05 AM, allegedly because the concrete was still wet due to just reinforced last night

The four workers are Harno (40), Nur Ucup (38), Budi Utomo (25), and Arden (17), while the injured victims are Narno (46), Darwanto (31), Agung Astanto (24), and Kurniawan (18). All of them were rushed to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).

“We were sleeping, then we heard a big sound. At first, we thought it was leaked concrete pump. It turned out that the bridge collapsed,” told Arci (25), one of the workers.

Based on the information gathered in the field, the bridge collapse because its supporting poles were weak and the concrete of the bridge was still wet. Indeed, the bridge was reinforced with concrete at 10 PM last night, then it collapsed at 6.05 AM.

“The incident happened around 6.05 AM, allegedly because the concrete was still wet due to just reinforced last night,” stated Head of Operation Section for Central Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department, Sudarno, when met in the location.

According to Head of Jakarta Library and Archives Board, Agus Suradika, the construction of the connecting bridge was started in last September and scheduled to finish on December 15. His party is investigating this case.

“From technical aspect, we’ll immediately consult with the project contractor, supervisor, and planner. I have reported this verbally to Acting Jakarta Governor,” he stated.

This incident is also investigated by Menteng Sector Police.
