Kali Apuran River in Cengkareng Being Dredged from Mud

The West Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency has started dredging the Kali Apuran River, Cengkareng since Wednesday (3/19). It is targeted to complete in two months ahead.

The total length of the river being dredged is 600 meters

Drainage Maintenance Division Head Wawan Kurniawan said, the dredging is carried out as the mud sedimentation in the river had touched 1 - 1.5 meters.

"The total length of the river being dredged is 600 meters from the Ring Road Bridge to Jalan Jembatan Puspa with four meters width. However, we only dredged 2.5 meters width as there were buildings stood atop to the river," he expressed, Tuesday (3/23).

He furthered, the river dredging had collected 300 cubic meters of mud out of an estimated total of 2,700 cubic meters of mud. Then the mud disposed to empty land owned by residents and the Jakarta Provincial Government not far from the dredging location.

"Two heavy equipment have been sent to the location, namely an amphibious excavator for dredging the river body and one long excavator to transport the mud to the designated area," he explained.

By so, it is expected to optimally accommodate water in large quantities and to smoothen river flow in order to minimize flooding, especially when it rains heavily.
