PPAPP Agency Head Tuty Kusumawati said that RA Kartini's struggle in gender equality should be a role model for Indonesian society. Thanks to her hard work, women also had the opportunity to receive a better education.

"Everyone knows Mrs. Kartini and her struggles. Unfortunately, only few realized and understood how important the essence of the thought of this extraordinary figure was," she expressed, Wednesday (5/5).

She assessed that her spirit of fighting for the role and position of women in nation-building was still relevant to be maintained and preserved in the present context. It was because currently women often experience acts of violence and gaps in accessing, managing and obtaining development benefits.

"The issue of violence against women and children is a complex or multi-sectoral issue. Thus, prevention and handling must also involve all development sectors," she explained.

She added the city administrtion was committed to protecting women and children as evidenced by the issuance of Bylaw number 8/2011 on the Protection of Women and Children from Violence.

Aside that, the issue of breeding women and children and disabilities had also been included in Regional Strategic Activities which not only involve the Regional Apparatus of the PPAPP Service, but also involved other regional apparatus organizations (OPD) and collaborate with several Regional-owned Enterprises (BUMD), including Polda Metro Jaya to handle victims of violence.

"We are collaborating with PT Transjakarta, PT MRT, and PT LRT by forming the Sahabat Perempuan and Anak Pos for the transportation mode. Then with PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol in handling the recovery of victims of violence against women and children," she stated.
