Jakarta's 494th Anniversary, Anies is Optimistic Jakarta Can Rise to Be Resilient and Sustainable City

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan and Jakarta Government officials held hybrid commemoration ceremony for Jakarta's 494th Anniversary at Jakarta City Hall's Courtyard, on Tuesday (6/22). Acting as Inspector of Ceremony, Anies opened his remarks by appreciating all Jakarta residents and those who have struggled in handling COVID-19 pandemic.

"Let me express my gratitude to all residents of Jakarta, all DPRD leaders and members, Forkopimda, religious scholars, as well as social, professional, and youth organizations, TNI/Police, and all civil apparatuses from the lowest level, and RT/RW administrators who have work well in realizing a conducive condition in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic," he conveyed, as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.
On this 494th anniversary, Jakarta Government raised theme of Jakarta Bangkit (Jakarta Awakening) after last year raised theme of Jakarta Tangguh (Jakarta is Tough). This year's theme shows optimism for recovery in various aspects, including health, economy, social, culture, and religion. He explained that process of awakening and recovering cannot be separated from well-established collaboration.

This year, we raise theme of Jakarta Bangkit, meaning an effort to recover from economy and health, towards a resilient and sustainable city," he asserted.
"Besides, there is Plus Jakarta element that makes Jakarta as City of Collaboration. In this city, gathered so many institutions, think tank, and companies. For this reason, Jakarta Government prioritizes collaboration by inviting all components to work together to advance Jakarta as collective effort," he continued.
According to him, optimism for awakening is reinforced with Jakartans character which is tough and ready to face the exist challenges, including pandemic. "Jakarta is a city filled with tough people, people who are able to face challenges and don't give up easily, ready to work hard and thoroughly. Therefore, this is reminder for all that the city's nature is ready to face challenges and willing to rise again," he stated.
On this occasion, he also encouraged all residents of Jakarta to take a part in restoring the city, from doing simple things, such as complying with health protocol. Thus it will help Jakarta to rise faster from COVID-19 pandemic.
"It is a challenging time, but God willing, we can live with sincerity, seriousness, and commitment to be disciplined in carrying out our responsibilities to protect ourselves, families, by complying with health protocol," he said.
"God willing, Jakarta can be more advanced, developed city and become pride of all. And God willing, citizens can feel happiness, be grateful for progressing, and the next generation can see us and appreciate the roles which we are playing today," he mentioned.
