Green Alley Farmers Trained to Develop Products from Crops

Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency held webinar on Development of Diversified Agricultural Product Innovation for Green Alley Farmers. As many as 155 participants consisting of PKK cadres, farmer groups (poktan) and green alley farmers throughout Jakarta attended this webinar which presented how to make brownie pie and okonomiyaki.

Jakarta KPKP Agency's Farming Division Head, Mujiati mentioned, it was the second series event in collaboration with Astragraphia, urban farmers, and practitioners in agriculture field.

"This activity teaches how to process food properly without reducing the nutrients and benefits," she conveyed, Thursday (8/19).

According to her, during the pandemic, residents still provide foods for their families. Some have even made it a business.

"So far, we are trying to make our alleys green and our crops can be harvested. We will develop it by processing the crops into foods, thus our green alleys are known to many people and continue to be productive," she asserted.

He hopes participants can develop green alleys to be more sustainable and full of productive plants, and take advantage of the crops thus it can give more benefits for the surrounding community.

Meanwhile, Food and Nutrition Consultant, Marina Noor, the speaker added that processed foods from green alleys have been proven to be effective in raising economy in the region.

"So, it will be a shame if it is not used as well as possible. Even thought there are many around us that can be utilized and have economic value," she said.
