Jakarta PON XX Team in Eight Sports Exceeds the Target

Jakarta Province managed to be the runner-up i PON XX Papua which took place on October 2-15, 2021 with 111 gold medals, 91 silver medals, and 99 bronze medals in eight sports, namely swimming, billiards, shooting, archery, pencak silat (martial arts), artistic gymnastics, and rollerblading.

General Chair of Indonesian National Sports Committe for Jakarta Province, Djamhuron P. Wibowo expressed his apologies to all Jakarta residents because the target for General Champion in PON has not been achieved.

"Although we haven't won the General Champion yet, thank God, thanks to the hard work of all parties, Jakarta contingents at PON Papua is better than PON XIX in West Java, which was ranked third at that time. I apologize for the results that have not been maximized," he said during press conference at Jakarta KONI Building, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Thursday (10/28).

Meanwhile, Chairman of Jakarta Contingent for PON, Hidayat Humaid added, in addition to eight sports that exceeded the target, there were also 10 other sports that met the medal target.

Those are cricket, wrestling, rhythmic gymnastics, taekwondo, boxing, baseball, sepak takraw, rugby, handball, and muaythai.

"During PON, Jakarta contingents have shown their maximum performance. Appreciation from Jakarta Government and DPRD becomes encouragement for us to continue to excel. It also becomes an evaluation thus we can do even better in the future," he stated.
