End of November, TBM 1 for MRT Phase 2A Project will Be Transported to Bundaran HI Station

Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) 1 for MRT Phase 2A CP201 construction will be brought to Bundaran HI Station at the end of November 2021 to make a tunnel until Harmoni Station.

It came in 48 parts and later it will be assembled at drilling site

PT. MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) Corporate Secretary Division, Rendi Alhial conveyed, TBM 1 had arrived at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta on November 21, 2021.

"TBM 1 has been arrived after traveling by sea for approximately three weeks from China. It came in 48 parts and later it will be assembled at drilling site," he said in written statement on Tuesday (11/23).

According to him, TBM 1 arrived in Jakarta after finished fabricating at one of factories belonging to multinational company from Japan, namely Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd in Hangzhou and Wuhu, Republic of China.

"This tunnel boring machine is selected in accordance with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Guideline and TBM which made with quality and production control according to Japanese standards,"he explained.

TBM 1 uses earth pressure balance type with engine diameter 6,800 mm and shild length 8,500 mm and segment diameter of 6,650 mm (outer) and 6,050 mm (inner).

This type of machine is used based on results of study on soil condition along 2A phase route which is dominated by alluvial claw with several layers of diluvial clay and diluvial sand.

"MRT Phase 2A tunnel construction will use two TBM units that will be imported in stages. TBM 1 will start drilling from Bundaran HI Station to Thamrin Station and make U-turn inside the station to drill from Thamrin Station to Bundaran HI Station," he mentioned.

After that, TBM 1 will be transported to Monas Station to drill towards Harmony Station.

"TBM 2 will start drilling from Monas Station into Thamrin Station and make U-turn for drilling from Thamrin Station to Monas Station and continue from Monas Station to Harmony Station," he stated.

Apart from drilling, his side will also installed segment ring with average productivity of around five rings per day. One tunnel ring consisted of six segments with width 1.5 meters.

"TBM will drill as long as 7.5 meters per day. The tunnel segment lining is produced at WIKA KOBE factory, Karawang," he added.

The excavated soil will be mixed with polymer and pumped using soil pump from TBM chamber to muck pit at ground level to be transported by truck to designated soil disposal site.

"Later on, the excavated soil will be used to backfill the burial grounds in Rorotan Public Cemetery (TPU) and Tegal Alur Public Cemetery, West Jakarta. This drilling work takes about 17 month to be completed by two TBMs," he mentioned.

MRT Jakarta Phase 2A CP201 project were financed by Central Government, Jakarta Government and loan funds from Japanese Government through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

"During the construction work, MRT Jakarta involves consultant, contractors, and products from Japanese companies, it includes TBM which will be used in MRT Phase 2A CP201," he closed.
