Jakarta Sets Up Kitchen Post in Lumajang for Ease of Distribution Logistics

The Jakarta Disaster Response Collaborative Task Force Team has set up a station post on Jalan Raya Pasirian, Jarit Village, Candipuro Sub-district, Lumajang Regency, which aims to simplify the process of providing assistance for survivors of the Mount Semeru eruption. It was built on an empty land, consisting of a public kitchen for officers, staff tents, and equipment tents. It has been set up since Wednesday (12/8) morning with the help of local residents.

Villagers collaborated in the process of setting up the post, starting from providing the equipment needed by personnel, supplying clean water, including building roads for access in and out of the post, thus facilitating vehicle mobility.

Bokir (35), one of Jarit villagers admitted, he and other villagers initiated to help the team set up the post. According to him, the Task Force's concern for Lumajang people affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru, made him called to help.

"We are called to help, as Jakarta cares about the people of Lumajang. Anyway, we're ready to help while they are on duty here," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

Public Protection Head for Jakarta Satpol PP, Atok Baroni Hidayat really appreciated the initiative of the villagers who volunteered to help the team set up the post. He assessed, the disaster was not his own responsibility, but also a shared responsibility to be completed and resolved together, which is a form of collaboration in humanitarian missions.

"I see villagers care tremendously for us. This is our sincerity to help them, despite we don't know them. We came here with a noble purpose, they responded well. We are given a path for the post thus it is easy for us to do movements and other activities. They even offered to rest staff in their homes. Great appreciation to them," he stated.
