Djarot: Mother’s Day Should Be Commemorated Rigorously

Vice Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat assessed that Mother’s Day which falls on December 22 is a momentum to enhance the role of women.

“Mother’s Day should be commemorated rigorously. Not only ceremonial, but how to improve mothers’ roles in the future,” he said, Monday (12/22).

According to Djarot, Mother’s Day is a celebration to the roles of mother in the family and social environment. On that basis, this big day should be utilized to appreciate the services and struggles of mothers.

“Happy Mother’s Day. Let us make our mothers able to educate, nurture, and create a better generation in the future than current generation,” he stated.

In that occasion, Djarot also asked central government not to make discourse that could divide gender equality, like the plan to reduce working hours for women. The government is supposed to issue a policy for pregnant women over the safety of children in the womb.

“There should be special policy for mothers who have given birth or are pregnant. Women and men or fathers are equal,” he asserted.
