We involve more participants

It is divided into two classes, advanced and beginner classes. In detail, the advance class takes place today with 1,320 participants and the beginner class on June 20 to 21, 2022, with 1,320 participants from 44 sub-districts.

As for the materials given, the advanced class presents melon fruit cultivation and vegetable cultivation with hydroponic technology. Then the beginner class presents the cultivation of leaf/fruit vegetables, tabulampot, and biopharmaceutical cultivation as well as planting media composition.

East Jakarta and ACT Unite to Overcome Stunting

Jakarta TP PKK's III Family Resilience Chairwoman Komariah Marulah said the stunting problem cannot be separated from the food problem. Not only in terms of quality but also with the diversity of food and consumption patterns.

She explained that urban farming is one solution to overcome the stunting problem in Jakarta and synergy with the TP PKK program this year, namely Together for You towards a Stunting Free Jakarta.

According to her, the activity is packaged from upstream to downstream, from cultivation to processing. It prioritizes the active participation of the participants, intensive assistance, and in groups. This collaboration and active participation had proven to be effective in maintaining the continuity of the Gardening Class activities.

It could be processed to meet the nutritional needs of the community, especially those who are stunted, as well as a precautionary measure to prevent stunting due to malnutrition.

"We involve more participants and I'm sure that the problem of stunting, especially from the availability of food, can be overcome thus children can grow into a generation that is qualified and ready to face the challenges of the times." she continued, Thursday (6/16).

She added that collaboration with the government, the business world, and the community would be intensified in order to realize Maju Kotanya, Bahagia Warganya (making a developed city for happier people). Including synergy between PKK programs and various local government organizations within the Jakarta administration.

She was optimistic that if it had a good impact on the development of Jakarta, the community would feel more benefits.

"This collaboration between various parties is the driving force to realize common goals. That's why I hope that all participants can take this opportunity seriously, understand and practice the material provided thus we can harvest together someday," she added.

As for the information, the 2022 Gardening Class was realized in collaboration with Jakarta Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (PPAPP) Agency; Communications, Informatics, and Statistics (Kominfotik) Agency; PT East-West Seed Indonesia (Cap Panah Merah) which provided seeds for the class participants; and PT Rasa Agri.

"Let's celebrate Jakarta's 495th Anniversary by planting in our environment. In Jakarta, only a few residents have a large land but we're not pessimists with a narrow land yet we can still do activities to plant trees and we have proven the results ourselves," she stressed.

KPKP Agency Head Suharini Eliawati said that the development of urban farming in Jakarta is a form of implementation of the Governor's Instruction number 14/2018 on Urban Farming and Great Design of Urban Farming in 2018-2030.

Based on the MarkPlus data, as many as 98 percent of respondents agreed that urban farming supports agricultural activities on the grounds of food security and environmental friendliness, where 92 percent will continue to conduct urban farming after the Covid-19 pandemic, and 57 percent are interested in carrying out urban farming activities but have not done so.

She explained the Urban Farming Academy is one of the activities at the KPKP Agency which is done collaboratively with stakeholders and was inaugurated on June 4, 2021, in conjunction with Environment Day.

"This was formed to open up opportunities for Jakartans to get education and training related to urban farming by utilizing the land for agricultural cultivation independently," she explained.

The program has been held with 1,320 participants from 44 sub-districts last year. Then in 2022-2026, it would be continuously conducted to reach more people, including people with disabilities.

She added that providing education and agricultural training to persons with disabilities is expected to provide benefits for independence as well as the rehabilitation and rehabilitation of people with disabilities.

"So, urban farming in Jakarta is expected to be a model for the development of urban farming for other cities in Indonesia," she hoped.
