The word “Wastra” derives from the old language Sanskrit, an ancient language of India (the language of the Vedas and of Hinduism, now mostly used only for religious purposes); means traditional (hand-crafted) textile.
According to Iwan Henry Wardhana, Agency Head of Jakarta Culture, the event was held to commemorate the Textile Museum's 46th Anniversary and Indonesia's 74th Independence Day, including preserving Indonesian Wastra and a reminder of the rich history of Indonesian civilization.

He went on to say that it was realized in collaboration with the Wastraprema Association and would exhibit 138 pieces of woven fabric from the collections of the Textile Museum, Jo Seda Wastra House, as well as the late collector Biranul Anas from Sumatra, Timor, and Sulawesi.
"Thank you to all those who have supported the implementation of this exhibition thus it runs successfully. Hope this collaboration will continue to last in the future in various forms of activities that are beneficial to the community," he continued.
As for the information, weaving is an ancient tradition that has existed in Indonesia for thousands of years. The weaving tradition that can be found in various regions in Indonesia has become an inseparable part of the life of the local community.
Therefore, each region has its unique weaving characteristics following the customs and beliefs that are believed by the community. It has created a great diversity with various uniqueness, which makes Indonesia a paradise for weaving lovers.

- Wall Hanging Weaving Contest inspired by Sumatra/Timor/Sulawesi Weaving Ornaments from July 20 to August 20, 2022
- Batik Workshop attended by SMK students and the Wastra community in Jakarta in August 2022 at Textile Museum; while webinars related to Indonesian Woven Fabrics will be held on:
- Saturday, July 23, 2022, with the title "Pesona Tersembunyi Wastra Tenun Lampung: Kain Kapal, Tapis dan Bidak", at 10 AM
- Saturday, August 6, 2022, with the title "Kelangkaan Kain Koffo Sulawesi", at 10 AM
- Saturday, August 20, 2022, with the title "Songket Minang and Palembang: Keindahan yang Berbeda", at 10 AM
- Saturday, August 27, 2022, with the title "Di balik Keindahan Wastra Tenun Timor: Teknik Buna dan Mama Penenun", at 10 AM
