Car Owners Must Use Public Transport, Ahok Says

Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama denied the allegations about the cooperation of city government with car manufacturers related the policies of motorcycles ban passed along Jalan MH Thamrin - Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat.

Electronic road pricing will be imposed for car owners

"If we did conspiracy, why the motor industry did not angry because the purchase of the motor decreased?" said Basuki, at City Hall, Thursday (1/8).

He confirmed, his side will also force the car owners to switch using public transport with the application of the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP). "Electronic road pricing will be imposed for car owners," he added.

Basuki continued, city government will also implement a progressive tax for residents who continue to buy a new car. In addition, the city government will pursue tax car buyers who do not have a NPWP (tax card). Not only that, the amount of paid car tax will be re-examined with a value of taxes paid.

"We'll pursue if you buy car without having NPWP. There will be a comparison between NPWP and your budget," he continued.

Basuki assessed the motorcycle ban policy on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat up to Jl MH Thamrin is effective in reducing congestion.

According to that, the city government plans to extend the ban location especially in protocol roads. "The target is corridor I and Kuningan. It could be from Medan Merdeka Barat to Ratu Plaza or Blok M," he added.

He explained that the motorcycle ban is aimed to encourage people using public transport.

Meanwhile, the progressive tax in 2015 will  increase up to 150 percent. It begins from 2 percent, previously 1.5 percent, for the second vehicles. The third vehicles is 6 percent from 2.5 percent, and the fourth or more is 10 percent from 4 percent.
