After being stuck for two years, Jakarnaval is back as a series of the 495th Jakarta Hajatan (anniversary) and Indonesia's 77th Independence Day on Sunday (8/14) at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit, Ancol, North Jakarta.
This is also a symbol of the revival of the post-pandemic Jakarta tourism industry
As quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release at this year's Jakarnaval, the Jakarta Tourism and Economy Creative Agency (Parekraf) involved several communities to perform their best works, starting from decorative car makers, Intellectual Property (IP) performers, musical dramas, marching bands, dance performances, ondel-ondel (Betawi effigies) performances, roller skating attractions, to gambang kromong (traditional Betawi orchestra) performances.
Tourism and Economy Creative Agency Head Andhika Permata said that Jakarnaval was held as one of the tourist attractions in Jakarta which aims to promote and synergize the diversity of tourist attractions, culture, and creativity of the Jakarta community and drive a tourism-based local economy, which leads to the creation of job opportunities, and the promotion of tourism destination products, culture, and creative economy.
Ancol to Introduce Jagat Rimba at 2022 Jakarnaval Today"This is also a symbol of the revival of the post-pandemic Jakarta tourism industry," he expressed.
He added that the theme that popped up at Jakarnaval was 'Intellectual Property of the Archipelago for the World'.
According to him, the intellectual property that appeared at Jakarnaval was the work of young Jakartans. What was unique was that they presented Indonesian story characters that were packaged creatively, neatly, and up to date.
"We dedicate this intellectual property to the world. This also strengthens Jakarta's position as a Global City," he explained.
In this Jakarnaval, the parade participants are divided into 5 clusters:
1. Jawara Epic Adventure – Three Betawi Legendary Heroes: Pitung, Jampang, and Sabeni are united in a universe where they will go on an adventure together. They are called the Three Warriors
2. Guardians Of Nusantara – Taking the story of the Majapahit kingdom with a touch of fantasy, visitors are reminded of the spirit of Patih Gajah Mada in Sumpah Palapa (Palapa Oath) to unite the archipelago
3. Gundala – Jakarta is a multi-ethnic city that is very diverse, the big challenge is how to maintain unity amid existing differences. Gundala arrives as a figure who is ready to maintain unity by spreading the spirit of belief in the hope that even in differences, the city of Jakarta will remain firmly united in a collaboration between cultures and differences
4. Chronicles Of Destiny – the combination of 3 Indonesian folk tales, namely Keong Mas, Timun Emas, and Bawang Merah Bawang Putih is imagined in a classic style, and reminds the message to always believe that where there is a difficulty there will be beauty in the end
5. The Inferno Heart – Ramayana is a story that has never been told in the country, this story is retold with the theme of 'steam-punk' which is very full of innovation
Besides watching the carnival with a parade of decorative cars that popped up in local Indonesian stories, visitors can also enjoy entertainment on the main stage which will be entertained by Armada Band, Lyodra, and Juicy Lucicy.
As for the information, Jakarnaval has been held since 1999 and is the largest annual carnival parade organized by the Jakarta administration.
This parade also strengthens Jakarta's position as a city that unites communities, who are brave and determined to look to the post-pandemic future with optimism, togetherness, and creativity, which of course have been the character of Jakarta as a developed, modern city with residents who never give up in realizing their dreams.
