Paskibraka Inauguration, Governor: Raise the Red-and-White Flag Wherever You Are

Jakarta Governor Baswedan inaugurated members of the Jakarta Provincial Level National Flag Hoisting Team (Paskibraka) at Great Hall, on Monday (8/15).

The Paskibraka team will later serve at Indonesia's 77th Independence Day Ceremony in the Jakarta administration area on August 17, 2022, at the Lapangan Silang Monas. In his speech, the Governor started by congratulating the members and parents of Paskibraka.

"Congratulations to those of you who have been appointed as Paskibraka Jakarta today. You all have gone through a long selection process thus you were selected and confirmed as flag bearers," the Governor expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

“Congratulations also to the parents who have educated, raised, and prepared their children thus they are ready to take responsibility for hoisting the red-and-white flag. We thank our parents," he continued.

He also advised the Paskibraka team to interpret the hoisting of the red-and-white flag as not merely ceremonial but to mean the pride and sense of nationalism of the team wherever they are and in whatever sector they will work in the future.

“You have the task of flying the red-and-white flag, trained, prepared, and have the mandate to do more than just hoist the flag. Realize that actually, the task assigned is not only to hoist the flag at tomorrow's ceremony, the task of all of you is to raise the red-and-white for the rest of your life," he continued.

"You are on duty wherever and in whatever field you are in, so remember that the red slayer, the garuda symbol, and the red-and-white that are attached to your chest are flying everywhere. Because you have more future than the past, you have a noble task, remember this task to be carried out along the way forward," he added.

He also reminded them that the independence that we all feel now is the result of the struggle of our predecessors, including the hoisting of the red-and-white flag which requires a lot of sacrifices.

"It takes a very long struggle, countless lives, treasures, energy, and thoughts are sacrificed, today you are on duty to fly it takes 3-4 minutes. But, our forefathers, the warriors, took years to raise the red-and-white flag, tens of which were full of sacrifices," he stressed.

"So do this duty with full volunteerism, make sure the intention is sincere, the effort is complete, and do it wholeheartedly, be an example for all," he closed.
