56 Participants Join Barista Festival at Cibubur Junction

Some 56 participants take part in the Barista Festival at Cibubur Junction, which is initiated by the East Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) Sub-agency. The festival itself was directly opened by East Jakarta Vice Mayor Hendra Hidayat, Saturday (9/3).

According to him, the Barista Festival could boost the economy of Jakarta residents. Besides contesting the barista's expertise in making coffee, it was also enlivened by a bazaar of various coffee drinks from 20 tenants.
"Talk about coffee is unique, especially when a festival like this is made," he said, Sunday (9/4).

East Jakarta Parekraf Sub-agency Head Ahmad Gozali explained that the 56 participants took part in two types of contests, namely Manual Brewing (36 participants) and Latte Art (20 participants).
Winners will receive cash prizes and trophies. The first winner gets a prize of Rp 3.5 million, the second Rp 3 million and the third Rp 2.5 million. Then the first runner up is Rp 2 million and the second runner up is Rp 1.7 million.
“This Barista Festival (JakCoffeeEast) is a means of promoting Nusantara coffee. Besides that, it is also to increase tourist visits to East Jakarta," he exclaimed.
According to him, what was interesting was the presentation of techniques in serving coffee. One of the techniques practiced is Manual Brewing or serving coffee that is brewed manually, without the use of an espresso machine and some require special paper and filters.
