This Year, Artificial Lake Built on Jalan Letjen Suprapto

This pond will be built this year, to overcome inundation on Jalan Letjen Suprapto and Ahmad Yani

The Central Jakarta administration is about to build an artificial lake, locally known as embung on Jalan Letjen Suprapto, Cempaka Putih. This lake uses social and public facilities from the private sector and land belonging to the Jakarta Bina Marga Agency.

"Embung is built to anticipate inundation due to high rainfall, more than 150 millimeters per day, coupled with tidal floods which causes the Utan Kayu River water to frequently overflow onto Jalan Jendral Ahmad Yani and Jalan Letjen Suprapto," said Central Jakarta Mayor, Dhany Sukma, Friday (1/6).

He explained it would be built from the side of Holland Village to the front of the Materials and Technical Goods Industrial Unit Building and the Craft and Textile Industry Unit.

"We also plan to dredge and make a parapet on Utan Kayu River," he explained.

He added that it would function as a reservoir for water to flow into the water channel that leads to the Kemayoran Retention Pond and then into Item River and Sunter River. In addition, the PUPR Ministry is now building a water pump in Sunter River.

"This pond will be built this year, to overcome inundation on Jalan Letjen Suprapto and Ahmad Yani," he concluded.
