Commission D - LH Agency Holds Working Meeting to Discuss Air Pollution Handling

The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission together with the Jakarta Environment Agency (LH) held a joint working meeting to discuss handling air pollution in Jakarta.

We also asked for an evaluation of the implementation of the strategy to reduce air pollution

Jakarta LH Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto said a number of strategies that have been and will be carried out to deal with pollution in Jakarta include implementing a 50 percent WFH (Work From Home) system, intensifying emission tests for vehicles, engineering the weather with Weather Modification Technology (TMC), thus it rains in Jakarta, and implementing vehicle emission raid.

"Together with the central government, we're also discussing other alternatives to fix air quality in Jakarta, which is installing a kind of technology to blow water vapor into the air in a number of high-rise buildings in Jakarta," he expressed, at City Council building, Tuesday (8/22).

DPRD Supports Jakarta Government to Implement WFH for 50 Percent Employees

He went on to say that the long dry season which is expected to last until November 2023 will have an impact on increasing air pollution in Jakarta.

Jakarta DPRD Commission D Chairwoman, Ida Mahmudah urged the Jakarta Provincial Government to intensively push efforts to reduce air pollution in the capital city.

Her party also proposed another, broader way of involving community participation to reduce the causes of air pollution.

"The Jakarta Government must also coordinate with the government of the buffer zones to jointly address air pollution, especially air pollution from factories operating in the border area with Jakarta," she said.

She was optimistic that a vehicle emission raid that will be held in early September 2023 and other strategies that have been carried out by the ranks of the Jakarta Government will be able to reduce air pollution from the transportation sector.

"We also asked for an evaluation of the implementation of the strategy to reduce air pollution, thus the effectiveness of the action plans that have been done can be determined," she stated.
