Diskominfotik Calls on Residents to Care about Climate Change

The Jakarta Communication, Informatics and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik), held Technical Guidance (Bimtek) for Communication on Increasing Climate Change Awareness, Tuesday (8/20).

We need an opinion leader who is trusted by the public

There were 50 participants, consisting of religious leaders, teachers or educational staff with speakers from the University of Indonesia (UI) Environmental Engineering Lecturer, Mahawan Karuniasa and Environmental Activist and Observer, Ramon Y Tungka.

Resources Sub-Group Chairman, Ied Sabila stated that as Chair of Working Group IV, the Climate Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Team, in collaboration with National Geographic Indonesia, held technical guidance to raise the issue of climate change, which is widely discussed because it has a direct impact on society.

PPID Bimtek, Public Bodies Demanded to Optimize Information Services

"Hence, we need an opinion leader who is trusted by the public to convey issues surrounding climate change," she expressed.

According to her, the aim of involving religious leaders and educational staff in taking part in this technical guidance was to disseminate understanding about climate change which has an impact on the environment to the wider community.

He hoped that after this technical guidance was held, resident would not need to be afraid of climate change, but would start to be aware of doing whatever they could to save the environment.

"At least, residents start from themselves by reducing waste and emissions, such as using mass transportation during their daily activities," he added.

Environmental Engineering, University of Indonesia (UI) Lecturer, Mahawan Karuniasa, appreciated technical guidance that raised the issue of climate change.

"Hopefully, similar large-scale activities will be held to encourage residents to work quickly to prevent climate change which has an impact on the environment," he hoped.
