Rany Mauliani: Healthy Sanitation is Important to Prevent Defecation

Jakarta DPRD Vice Chairperson, Rany Mauliani says healthy sanitation is needed to accelerate the realization of stopping open defecation (BABS).

BABS or unhealthy sanitation can expose people to Escherichia coli (E.coli) bacteria

According to her, Open Defecation Free (ODF) needs to be supported by all parties because it can be related to children's health and development.

"BABS or unhealthy sanitation can expose people to Escherichia coli (E.coli) bacteria," she expressed, Tuesday (11/5).

For areas with dense settlements, she explained communal sanitation facilities can be built because the distance between houses is too close, often causing septic tanks to be in an inappropriate position concerning water sources.

"This condition is prone to triggering leaks or pollution," she explained.

She added providing decent and affordable housing could also be a solution to help improve the cleanliness and health of residents.

"A residence like this must also pay attention to health standards," she added.

She asked the related regional apparatus organizations (OPD) to increase socialization regarding the importance of Clean and Healthy Lifestyle Patterns (PHBS) to the community.

"We want Indonesia's golden generation of 2045 to be superior human resources who are physically and mentally healthy," she emphasized.
