"That is why today we are also launching the establishment of 870 new waste banks and the reactivation of 852 inactive ones,"

Finding Waste Solutions, Pramono Visits TPST BantargebangJakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno stated that waste issue has long been a challenge for the city. Although Jakarta has the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST), over time, it is expected to reach its capacity, as the city produces up to 8,000 tons of waste daily.
"This is one of our efforts, and of course, everyone has to make sacrifices. If not, one day we will be overwhelmed by our own waste," he expressed, on Friday (3/21).
Rano admitted that he was grateful for the inauguration of these four newly constructed TPS 3R facilities, which were completed in 2024. He hopes that these facilities will strengthen the role of waste banks and encourage public awareness in sorting and managing waste at the household level.
He believes that community involvement in waste processing and management will effectively reduce the amount of waste sent to Bantargebang. Therefore, in the future, Jakarta can become a greener, healthier, and more sustainable city.
Rano is optimistic that circular economy-driven waste management will offer economic advantages to residents while benefiting the environment. He stressed that these initiatives will play a key role in helping Jakarta achieve zero waste by 2050.
He further noted that 870 new waste banks would be established at the RW level, alongside the reactivation of 852 inactive waste banks.
"We hope this initiative will expand public understanding and awareness, encouraging everyone to take responsibility for waste management," he added.
Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, revealed that from 2022 to 2024, his party has built 17 TPS 3R facilities in various locations. Each TPS 3R can reduce waste sent to Bantargebang by 25-50 tons per day.
Out of 2,748 RWs in Jakarta, only 1,878 are equipped with waste banks, accounting for 2,287 units in total. However, 852 of these waste banks are currently inactive.
"That is why today we are also launching the establishment of 870 new waste banks and the reactivation of 852 inactive ones," he asserted.
