Prevent Corruption, Ahok Agrees Over Increasing Official Salary

Jakarta Governor, Basuki “Ahok” T Purnama revealed that he was agree with the demand filed by Indonesian Legislative Council Association (Adeksi) over increase in the official allowance by 200 percent and working period .

“I always support the increase in salary of Civil Servant, Legislative Council, Regent, Mayor, and Governor. This is not unusual if the salary is lower than Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) and State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN). It may be increased in accordance with the professional,” he said at City Hall, Thursday (6/25).

Ahok added if the policy was applied, there should be 'pembuktian terbalik' (shifting burden of proof), which aims to minimize corruption. “If every official cannot public their wealth, tax receipts, and lifestyle, they will be confiscated. So, everything should be balanced,” he uttered.

One of ways initiated by former Regent of East Belitung is non-cash transaction. Thus all financial transactions could be monitored. “Officials all over Indonesia cannot cash withdrawal more than UMP for instance,” he expressed.

Besides that, the officials commitment required not to take advantage of the state because of they have received huge salary and allowance. All this time, according to him, the corruption among officials is because of low income.

He went to say that by increasing the official's salary and allowance, could save the State (APBN) and City Budget (APBD). This is because it can minimize corruption.

“I fully agreed with the policy, and I believed we can save the state budget if the salary and allowance is increased,” he disclosed.
