You know war strategy? which will you attack? the enemy or the quarter? it's surely the quarter
Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama, has a special strategy to control street vendors in Jakarta. The strategy meant is by controlling their quarter directly.
The quarter meant is illegal buildings which settle road inspection, river bank, and water channel. All the buildings will be dismantled. By doing so, it is expected could lessen street vendors.
Street Vendors are the Backbone of Populist Economic"You know war strategy? Which will you attack? The enemy or the quarter? It's surely the quarter," he expressed at City Hall, Wednesday (7/1).
He believed, if the quarters raided then then they will not back to sell, like in Monas. "Our principle is obvious, if the river of inspection road wants to be dredged, then the illegal buildings surely will be dismantled. Whether it's street vendors, homes, or stalls that blocking the channel all of it will be dismantled," he expressed.
The policy taken, as he does not want the incident of Lenggang Jakarta vandalism happens again. He also hoped in future there would be fair competition between the vendors of Lenggang Jakarta with Monas street vendors.
"My principle, that I want everyone would be good. If there are 1-2 people would not, I will crack down on them. If there are 2 out of 10 people disturbing, I will also not let go 8 people left. Even if they don't have Jakarta ID Card, just go home," he stressed.
His party also equipped Satpol PP personnel with bat, shock tool, and revolver. It is purposed in order to the officers can anticipate the anarchist street vendors by ruining public facilities or intend to harm.
