Fire Rages Through Densely Populated Area in East Jakarta

An electrical short-circuit caused a massive fire that gutted 26 houses in densely populated area, Jalan Panca Warga II Block 27, RT 12/13, Cipinang Besar Selatan Urban Village, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Monday (8/3) dawn.

The fire caused 150 local people had to be evacuated in PAM Jaya office's hall and Al-Hidayah Mosque. Around two residents suffered severe burn when they tried to extinguish fire. The loss material is reaching to Rp 1.7 billion.

“We succeed to control fire at 3 AM. Allegedly, it is caused by electrical short-circuit,” said Section Head of Operational for East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-Department, Moelyanto.

Rian, (40) a local resident uttered the locals were sleeping during the incident. Suddenly, they shocked by shouts of fire. He then immediately reported it to the post of Jatinegara Sub-District Firefighter.

“Fire quickly destroyed the houses. We immediately tried to evacuate our valuables,” he told.

East Jakarta Mayor, Bambang Musyawardhana had took his time for reviewing the temporary refugee camp at 2.30 AM. He also gave aid in the form of blanket and mat.

“Then for food aid will be distributed three times a day," he finished.
