Popnas XIII, City Targeted to Grab 58 Gold Medals

Head of Jakarta Sports and Youth Department, Firmansyah Wahid is optimistic his contingent could achieve overall champion in National Student Sport Week (Popnas) XIII in Bandung, West Jakarta which is held on Thursday (9/10) until next Friday (9/18).

He disclosed the event which holds 20 sport branches will compete for 274 gold, platinum and bronze medals of 274 numbers competition. To be a overall champion, Jakarta targets to grab 20-25 percent of those medals.

"At least, we should grab 58 gold medals. With a record, medal achievement among contingent is even," he disclosed, Thursday (9/10).

Basuki Gave Bonus to STQ Champion

He stated, East and West Java are the toughest rival. Moreover, West Java is the host of Popnas this time.

"Lastly, in swimming national championship, our athletes are balance with East Java. If all runs well, we're optimistic would become the champion," he asserted.

To reach the target, he claimed, he excels some branches as gold miners such as swimming, athletics, karate, and gymnastic that targeted to get more than 30 gold medals.

"The rests, we hope other branches could also mine medals. I'm sure we could get one or two of each branch," he closed.
