Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama justified that his party will issue gubernatorial regulation regarding distribution of dog meat. It aims to protect consumers from rabies.

"Don't let irresponsible people selling rabies dog meat to be eaten by people. It would get them killed," stressed Ahok, at City Hall, Tuesday (9/29).
According to him, he does not prohibit anyone to eat something. Thus as policymaker, he can only protect citizen from eating dangerous food.

Currently, the regulation is being drafted. Eventually, every dog arriving in Jakarta needs to enclose information letter from the origin and it must be healthy.
As known, since 1980s, Jakarta has been free from the disease. But the distribution supervision still does not exist. Thus the regulation is needed to regulate it.
