Some Echelon-II Officials' Performance Slow, Basuki Says

Acting Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama revealed that he was disappointed with some echelon-II officials who slow in work and cannot overcome various issues in Jakarta. He will send a letter to the Home Ministry to replace unruly officials, particularly those echelon-II officials.

"I'll demote and send a letter to the Home Ministry. I would file replacing the unruly echelon-II officials," said Basuki, at City Hall, Tuesday (7/1).

He disclosed he does not mind if he sent letter to the Home Ministry and file echelon-II officials replacement, the Home Ministry would discuss with Governor or elected President.

Nevertheless, he was reluctant to tell the echelon-II officials who will replaced from their post. "If they do not change, we can already guess they can still be saved," he exclaimed.

He added that the amount of Jakarta civil servants is a lot, with details 72,000 formal employees plus 20,000 honorary employees. He asserted, this does not make sense.

"You can check elite housing in Kelapa Gading, Pantai Indah Kapuk, is there Public Works employee reaches 100 people? I think it doesn't. Just call, and then they come and solve the problems, how much? Just pay. We have 1,000 Public Works employees here, they all may not work on it. This is our problem," he uttered.
