500 Satpol PP Personnel Guard Vital Objects in Ring 1

As many as 500 Satpol PP personnel are put on standby to help assisting the security measures applied prior to the 2014 presidential result dispute verdict that will be announced by the Constitutional Court (MK) today, Thursday (8/21). Those Satpol PP personnel deployed to three locations in ring 1, namely in front of MK building, in front of the State Palace, and in the City Hall.

Head of Jakarta Satpol PP, Kukuh Hadi Santoso, detailed that 300 personnel are on guard in City Hall, 200 personnel in front of MK building, and 100 personnel in front of the State Palace.

“We deploy a total of 500 personnel who are accompanied by their commandants. They know what their duty is, to assist the police and TNI. In the crowds where there are street vendors, it is Satpol PP’s duty. The crowds that are making a scene, that is police’s authority. As for mass doing anarchy, they will be handled by TNI,” he stated.

Security in City Hall Tightened

In addition, Santoso told that his party also pays attention to the security of Jakarta’s top two leaders, Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo and Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama. However, he claimed there is no extra guard to both of those officials.

“Just normal. They don’t want to be guarded excessively. They are good people. Whatever the situation is, they are plain common,” he said.

Besides Satpol PP personnel, hundreds of policemen also guard the City Hall. They are fully armed with rifles, tear gases, and shields.
