Illegal Parking, Motorcyclist can Be Fined Rp 500,000

We're still finalizing the bylaw on tow cost and drafting a system to tow the motorcycle

A fine of Rp 500,000 per day for cars parked haphazardly, is planned to also be applicable on a motorcycle in the near future. Before imposing it, Jakarta Provincial Government will finalize the rules beforehand.

"We're still finalizing the bylaw on tow cost and drafting a system to tow the motorcycle," said Jakarta Vice Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama, Tuesday (9/9).

Tow Sanction Officially Applied for Four-Wheeled Vehicles

According to him, his party is also preparing crane equipment for motorcycles parked haphazardly in the roadside. Later on, the equipment can also be used to tow motorcycles in large quantities.

"We want to create the equipment like a bicycle parking lot thus we could tow more than one vehicle," he expressed.

He asserted that if the offender does not pay the fine, its amount will double per day.

"We can be more profitable. One motorcycle is just Rp 500,000, but we can collect Rp 2 million-Rp 2.5 million if as many as 4-5 motorcycles are towed," he asserted.

The former Regent of East Belitung acknowledged that Jakarta government cannot be sure when the rule can be imposed in the capital. It is conducted in order to give deterrent effect for people who park their vehicles haphazardly.

"The point is the system can run consistently but it will be initiated with snapping first," he uttered.
