President to Inaugurate Ahok as Jakarta Governor

Despite some of Jakarta Parliament (DPRD) members from the Koalisi Merah Putih (KMP) are reluctant to inaugurate Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama as Jakarta Governor, the parliament was just finished holding special plenary meeting in which Ahok is determined as the successor of Joko Widodo who becomes Indonesia President.

Related to that, General Director of Regional Autonomy for Home Ministry, Djohermansyah Djohan, said that in lieu of Law No. 1/2014 on regional head election, the article 163 specifically states that the governor will be inaugurated by the president. Even so, the inauguration time is adjusted with the president’s schedule. If the president could not do it, the person to replace him is the vice president or home minister.

“Based on the law, if the inauguration was held in the capital city, the inauguration is conducted by the president. But, it also depends on the president’s availability,” he explained, Friday (11/14).

Basuki: I Prefer Working for City than Thinking Inauguration

According to Djohan, his party is still waiting for the recommendation letter from DPRD on Ahok’s inauguration. But, he is doubt if the inauguration would be held on upcoming November 18 since there is administration process to be passed first, which is the issuance of President Decree.

“We’re waiting for the letter from DPRD chairman to propose Mr. Ahok as Jakarta Governor for the rest of 2012-2017 leadership period. If the letter has arrived, we directly process and send it to the president,” he uttered.

Even though the special plenary meeting held by DPRD was not quorum, Djohan stressed that it is still legitimate. This is because plenary meeting does not taking any decision.

“It has been announced by DPRD chairman that although the plenary meeting was not attended by some of KMP members, the meeting is still legitimate because plenary meeting is not a decision calling,” he stated.

For information, the President Decree issued will mention the determination of vice governor becomes governor and that he is dismissed from his position as vice governor.
