Taking Passengers Carelessly, Public Transport will Be Impounded

Jakarta Transportation Department will crack down on public transports that pick up and drop off passengers in forbidden areas. The policy is done to parse traffic congestion in the capital city.

"We plan to enforce the rules by impounding public transports that pick up and drop off passengers carelessly. This is also in accordance with the mandate of Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama," said Deputy Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, Pargaulan Butar Butar, Monday (1/5).

Before sanction is applied, Butar Butar stated his department will firstly conduct a mapping on areas used as examples in cracking down public transport. "Thus far, the mapping is still being processed," he expressed.

He furthered such rule has been applied long time ago but it is still unoptimal. This is because of many unruly officials control the public transport in the field. "That's why, we enforce the rules this year without exception. Our target is drivers who pick up and drop off passenger in forbidden areas," he asserted.

Butar Butar assessed, based on the data in the field, the undisciplined behavior is one of the causes of public transport to pick up and drop off passengers carelessly. "No wonder, many people who don't want to wait or ride public transport in the shelters," he expressed.

He cited that many public transport drivers wait passengers outside Kalideres Barat Bus Terminal, causing traffic congestion. "We've held socialization. If they do not obey our rule, we will not hesitate to crack down them," he disclosed.
