Chinatown Glodok is the only representative from Jakarta included in the top 50
Glodok Chinatown managed to hit the top 50 after competing with 3,419 other tourist villages throughout Indonesia.
Destination and Development Division Head Sherly Yuliana said that it was necessary to form a tourist village guided by the principles of community-based sustainable tourism in the context of community empowerment and the development of tourism potential in Jakarta.
Glodok Chinatown is Chosen to Represent Jakarta at ADWIShe explained that a tourist village is a form of integration between attractions, accommodation, and supporting facilities in a structure of community life that is integrated with procedures and traditions and pays attention to the quality of nature and the carrying capacity of the environment, social quality, and local culture preservation.
"Development of a tourist village is an activity to increase economic growth, people's welfare, eradicate poverty, overcome unemployment, preserve nature, the environment and resources and promote culture," she explained, Friday (7/15).
As a cultural tourism attraction, a tourist village must be unique and also managed by a community that can create a mix of various resources, village potential, and supporting facilities.
It is to attract tourist visits and foster economic activity that can improve the welfare of the local community.
As an evaluation, there should be a homestay in the Glodok Chinatown area, where there are residents' houses that are rented out to tourists with the caretaker living in them.
Homestays are rented out thus tourists have the experience of living in the Glodok Chinatown area and blend in with locals who are still gathering to socialize like in Petak Sembilan.
"So, they can feel the ambiance and atmosphere of the Chinatown area in the past which is still well preserved until now," she continued.
Until now, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry and the jury are still making visits to other tourist villages that are included in the top 50 of ADWI 2022.
“From Jakarta, there are 19 who have registered for ADWI. Chinatown Glodok is the only representative from Jakarta included in the top 50 out of 3,419 participants throughout Indonesia," she closed.
