Ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, City Maintains Price Stability

The Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security (KPKP) Agency is making various efforts to stabilize food supplies and prices in a bid to maintain food security ahead of the holy month of Ramadan to Eid al-Fitr

Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Suharini Eliawati conveyed the focus carried out when carrying out this food security program.

"Approaching Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, according to economic law, there will be a high demand which affects the supply and value of goods. That's why our focus is on maintaining price stability. Actually, throughout the year, we continue to control it but ahead of religious holidays it is carried out even more intensively, " she expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Friday (2/17).

This effort includes routine monitoring of prices, stocks, and supplies to food source locations (markets, distributors, shops, etc.) as a form of an early warning system carried out by the KPKP Office, Industry Trade Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) Agency, PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya, Perumda Dharma Jaya and Perumda Pasar Jaya, and Food Task Force.

"The monitoring location conducted were 47 traditional markets and 11 modern retail markets," she continued.

Aside that, the subsidized food program for certain communities has been held this year since January 24, 2023. In this program, people can take food packages worth IDR 126,000, consisting of the commodities of rice, beef, chicken meat, chicken eggs, mackerel, and milk at 336 distribution locations.

Communities who can receive the subsidized food program are Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) holders, registered PJLP officers with a maximum UMP salary by Rp 1.1 million, workers holding Jakarta Worker Cards (KPJ), honorary teachers, and non-PNS education staff. There are also registered flat occupants, Jakarta Elderly Card holders (KLJ) categorized as poor and are registered, Jakarta Persons with Disabilities Card (KPDJ) holders categorized as poor and are registered, Family Welfare Empowerment Empowerment (PKK) cadres categorized poor and are registered, and holders Jakarta Child Card (KAJ).

Another effort is to organize mobile food bazaars which are carried out regularly with BUMDs and food SOEs to the mayor's office/sub-district/urban village and flats, thereby facilitating public access to quality food at affordable prices.

"This mobile food bazaar is carried out using a car that sells various food needs, the aim is to bring food closer to the community," she added.

Integrated food quality control is also carried out routinely in 140 locations (110 traditional markets under Perumda Pasar Jaya, 24 supermarkets, 5 coached locations (Lokbin) under Jakarta PPKUKM Agency, and 1 Rice Distribution Center location).

The monitored commodities are agricultural commodities (rice, fruit, and vegetables), livestock (chicken and beef), and fisheries (fresh and processed fish products). Then the development of urban farming with the cultivation of fast-harvesting crops and plants that affect inflation, such as chilies.

Cultivation is done in seven priority space targets, namely: flats, vacant land, yards and village alleys, schools, buildings, and RPTRAs.

"We also continue to cooperate, both between regions, as well as with the central government and food business actors, as an effort to guarantee food availability. Various commodities such as rice, chili, shallots, chicken eggs, chicken and beef, to the marketing of regional products and SMEs, we work with producing regions, both from Java Island and outside Java, " she explained.

To anticipate possible violations and control inflation, the KPKP Agency intensifies routine coordination and communication with the Jakarta Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) and the National Police Food Task Force. Jakarta TPID meeting activities are held every week involving Bank Indonesia Jakarta Representative and Polda Metro Jaya.
