Disbud Holds Wastra Exhibition at Textile Museum

The Jakarta Cultural Agency (Disbud) once again held a Wastra Exhibition with the title, 'Menjalin Benang, Meniti Sukma: Wastra Tenun Bertuah dalam Siklus Daur Hidup'.

Hopefully, the existence of these literatures can be informed to the public

It is held to commemorate the Textile Museum and Wastraprema Association's 47th Anniversary, as well as to increase public appreciation for Indonesian traditional woven fabrics.

Jakarta Disbud Head, Iwan Henry Wardhana said the exhibition will run until July 30, 2023, from Tuesday to Sunday at around 9 AM - 3 PM at the Textile Museum, West Jakarta.

100 Participants Invited to Explore Tourist Destinations in West Jakarta

As for the entrance ticket to the museum costs Rp 5,000 for adults, Rp 3,000 for students, and Rp 2,000 for children. In addition, a series of exhibition activities are carried out with several events, including hybrid seminars, workshops, and talk shows for literature lovers.

"In today's practical modern era, a series of life cycle ceremonies are rarely carried out, only in a few places and certain groups as part of the tradition. Because of this, many of the textiles needed for the life cycle are no longer woven and knowledge about how to make and use them is slowly fading. Hopefully, the existence of these literatures can be informed to the public and presented in the form of this literature exhibition," he expressed in the Jakarta Provincial Government's press release, Friday (6/23).

Further, there are 85 collections of woven fabrics on display and funded by the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) for non-physical Operational Assistance (BOP) for Museums and Cultural Parks, Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry.

The collection of woven fabrics comes from the islands of Sumatra to Nusa Tenggara which are collections of the Textile Museum, Jo Seda Wastra House, and collectors such as Sri Sintasari Iskandar, Aswin Wirjadi, Tjok Istri Ratna, Dini Jusuf, and Vilidius Siburian.

He added the beauty in simplicity and luxury that radiates from every sheet of cloth is a silent word that exclaims how rich and sublime Indonesia's literary culture is.
