Dharma Jaya Gears Up to Become Animal Protein Center in Jakarta

Perumda Dharma Jaya targets to become a center for animal protein in Jakarta in order to transform its core business.

In other words, they not only serve Jakartans in meeting their needs for animal protein, but can also become an information center on strategic meat issues that can monitor price movements, demand and supply of meat in Jakarta and nationally.

Perumda Dharma Jaya President Director, Raditya Endra Budiman expressed there are currently more than 10 companies in the meat industry or animal protein (beef, chicken and fish) business activists who are headquartered at Perumda Dharma Jaya.

"Because they take and deposit goods here. Buying and selling transactions are also here," he stated, Thursday (7/27).

Seeing the considerable interest from companies or animal protein business activists, it is projected that the number of companies joining Perumda Dharma Jaya will increase.

By so, they would renovate the head office building on Jalan Penggilingan Raya, Cakung, East Jakarta, which aim to accommodate more companies or protein business activists to have offices and market their products.

"We see that there are requests from companies wanting to enter Perumda Dharma Jaya. We haven't been able to meet the request, as the space is limited and the capacity is full," he explained.

In the future, the head office building will be renovated into nine floors. Four of the floors will be rented out to external parties. It is carried out because Perumda Dharma Jaya wanted to transform into an animal protein center in Jakarta. All animal protein needs can be found at Perumda Dharma Jaya.

Likewise, the movement of animal food prices can also be centralized through the Perumda Dharma Jaya head office, thus it is easier to make policies/decisions.

"We want all strategic issues regarding animal protein to originate here. It is hoped that this company can be like a stock exchange or meat market. So, we can monitor the movement of meat prices in Jakarta and nationally, demand, and supply. Later it could become the center for animal food industry players headquartered at Perumda Dharma Jaya," he explained.

The first step is to renovate the cold storage warehouse behind the head office. Currently, cold storage has 850 tons capacity, half of which is leased out to external parties.

During the renovation, these external parties will be relocated, then once it's finished, they can reuse it in a better location with a wider capacity. This cold storage will function as a meat market.

Then cold storage facilities will be repaired and its capacity will be increased, namely there will be around 24 reefer containers with 40 tons each capacity equipped with around 13 kiosks for rent to external parties who have merchandise in the containers.

The cold storage renovation which functions as a 2,000 square meter meat market will begin construction in the 4th quarter of 2023 and is targeted to be completed in January 2024. The construction process is currently in the planning stage.

"Projection until 2026, we want to have cold storage with 25,000 tons capacity. Our current cold storage is only 850 tons which will be repaired to 1,000 tons capacity. Then a new one with 2,000 tons capacity will be built. Continue to be built with 5,000 tons capacity on land that is still vacant. So gradually. This year, the target is 3,000 tons," he explained.

He added adding cold storage capacity and providing offices for stakeholders or external parties is a strategy to make Perumda Dharma Jaya a center for animal protein in Jakarta. Hopefully, this strategy could push the commercial business of Perumda Dharma Jaya forward and create new jobs.

"However, do not forget the main task of Perumda Dharma Jaya as a Jakarta BUMD, which is to serve the community in meeting their needs for animal food," he stated.
