C. Jakarta Mayor Announces Normal Prices for Staple Foods as Ramadan Approaches

Central Jakarta Mayor, Dhany Sukma, checked prices and stocks of food commodities ahead of Ramadan 1445 Hijri at Pasar Senen, Jalan Pasar Senen, RW 03, Senen Urban Village, Senen Sub-district, Friday (3/8).

Some are down and some are stable

According to Dhany Sukma, Mayor of Central Jakarta, the prices of necessities were still fluctuating based on monitoring results in the field.

"Some are down and some are stable. But some are increasing," he expressed, Friday (3/8).

He explained the commodities experiencing price increases were tomatoes and broiler chicken. Then, relatively stable commodity prices were wheat and meat.

"The prices of rice and sugar are currently tending to decline. Even though several commodities have risen, the stock is sufficient," he explained.

He asserted that the Jakarta Provincial Government would keep intensifying cheap market operations to prevent price spikes or panic buying.

"We'll routinely carry out cheap markets during Ramadan in every urban village," he asserted.

Central Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-agency (KPKP) Head, Penty Yunesi Pudyastuti added regular monitoring of prices and stocks of food commodities was done periodically.

"Rice is still safe and sufficient, including for the needs of Idul Fitri," he stated.
