Facing Rain Acting Governor Instructs to Strengthen Synergy Across Regional Apparatus

The Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to increasing anticipatory efforts ahead of the peak of the rainy season at the end of the year. Hence, Acting Governor Teguh Setyabudi instructed all levels of regional apparatus in Jakarta to strengthen synergy in dealing with the impacts of the rainy season.

"Anticipation related to flooding problems can't be done by one agency alone, it requires synergy across regional devices. So, all ranks, not just the Water Resources Agency (SDA). Let's work together to prepare and must be anticipated immediately (rainy season)," he expressed, when he led an executive meeting with regional apparatus at City Hall, Tuesday (10/29).

He asserted readiness to face the rainy season is always an annual priority for the Jakarta Government. He urged all related regional apparatuses such as Jakarta SDA Agency, Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat), Jakarta Environmental Agency (LH), Jakarta Social Agency, and others to continue making repairs as an anticipatory measure.

"I appreciate our efforts in anticipating flooding. Not only in the West Flood Canal and East Flood Canal, thus the flood points have decreased. North Jakarta for instance, there may still be a little, while Central Jakarta has been minimized. However, we must pay attention to other points, such as in the underpass area towards Halim Airport, Cempaka Putih, and other underpass points," he explained.

He also asked for the readiness of all related regional apparatuses to map locations that often experience flooding. It also ensures the availability of supporting facilities in anticipating flooding, such as stationary pumps, mobile pumps, to Human Resources (HR) to be on standby at the alert posts in each urban village, as well as mapping flood evacuation locations, which include public kitchens and sanitation.

"The Jakarta Government can synergize with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda). Pay attention to diseases that arise due to flooding, then engineer traffic if there is puddles. Therefore, I ask for our readiness, let's map the points once again. Regarding technical matters, also make sure that several related matters that we usually do are now maximized again," he explained.

Then related with the river, the Acting Governor also reminded the SDA Agency to routinely dredge reservoirs, rivers, and ponds so as not to cause sedimentation that could impede water flow. Aside that, the Parks and City Forest Agency (Distamhut) was also urged to pay attention to pruning trees that are prone to falling to anticipate strong winds during the rain.

"After the water recedes, the LH Agency can also deploy troops to clean up the remaining trash from the flood. It can't be done alone. We can prepare various platforms to prepare socialization to anticipate this flood. We must maintain the consistency of each task force in working together and coordinating regional devices to strengthen synergy," he said.
