Rental Flats Provided to Ciliwung Riverbank Locals

Hundreds of Pinangsia residents, Taman Sari, West Jakarta, still persist staying in ex-demolishment location. They decided to stay by setting up the tents.

Respondong on this matter, Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama asserted his party has provided low-cost rental flat for those residents whose house affected by the demolishment. "Please register yourself to urban village and sub-district heads for getting the flat. If not, you will not get it," he asserted, City Hall, Thursday (5/28).

Former Regent of East Belitung disputed his party did not hold socialization with residents related to demolishment plan along Ciliwung Riverbank. In fact, he continued, it was already held a while ago.

"We also gave them tolerance to demolish their building after their children finish the National Exam (UN). That's what they want," he expressed.

Ahok disclosed, the rejection is often conveyed by residents with some excuses. The same thing happened when Jakarta government intended to demolish illegal buildings in Pluit Reservoir area, North Jakarta a couple of times ago. Whereas, the government had provided a decent flat as diversion. "If we don't demolish the buildings now, it would be postponed until Eid ul Fitr then Christmas, so when will it be complete?," he told.

He claimed he does not worry about the Pinangsia residents who keep staying on such location. "If they want to set up the tents, go ahead. I'm wondering how long they can survive staying," he uttered.
