Harapan Island Finalizes Rainwater Tank Project

To bolster local water security, the Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) has finalized two rainwater storage units on Harapan Island, North Seribu Islands Sub-district.

The project fulfills resident requests

Specifically, the tanks are situated at Widya Bahari RPTRA, RT 01/02 and the vicinity of the Harapan Island National Park Management (SPTN) Office.

"The project fulfills resident requests made during this year's Musrenbang community forum," stated Seribu Islands SDA Sub-agency Head, Mustajab, Tuesday (12/23).

Residents Appreciate Construction of Rainwater Tanks on Pramuka Island

He explained, this initiative focuses on optimizing rainwater as a secondary water source for residents to ensure a steady supply of clean water for public facilities.

Working manually from December 3 to Monday (12/22), 12 personnel successfully finalized the construction. The project focused on building durability while ensuring the design remained aesthetically pleasing alongside its surroundings.

"The foundations for the water tanks were built to 100 centimeters high and 60 centimeters wide. The aim is to maintain a steady supply of clean water for public use, especially during the dry season.

Backing the initiative, Harapan Island Urban Village Head, Muhammad Nuralim highlighted the dual-purpose nature of the tanks: fulfilling the community's domestic water needs while simultaneously advancing sustainable groundwater preservation in the archipelago.

"This initiative enables islanders to shift away from groundwater sources threatened by saltwater contamination," he added.

This work received appreciation from the local resident from Harapan Island, Hadi (47).

He noted that RPTRA serves as a community hub and a children’s playground, which necessitates an adequate water supply.

In doing so, the facility can be collectively maintained by residents to ensure its long-term benefits. There are hopes that similar projects will be implemented in other locations across Harapan Island.

"May this be a promising beginning toward establishing a self-reliant clean water system on Harapan Island," he concluded.
