Meat Peddlers Walk Out, City to Hold Market Operation

The City Administration will back to hold market operation (OP) of meat to anticipate scarcity of beef due to strike action from meat peddlers in some traditional markets.

However, it is still waiting for a meeting of Jakarta Small and Medium Cooperatives Enterprises Department and PD Dharma Jaya, Monday afternoon (8/10). 

"The operation market will be discussed this afternoon and about the decision lies in the Gove rnor," said Head of East Jakarta Marine, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-Department (KPKP), Bayu Sarihastuti, Monday (8/10). 

70 Tons of Meat Prepared in Market Operation

Sarihastuti claimed she has conducted observation to some traditional markets and all the peddlers still walk out to sell. Those markets are Rawamangun, Ujung Menteng, Perumnas Klender, and Cibubur. 

Separately, PD Dharma Jaya Director, Marina Ratna Dwi Kusuma is ready to sell 30 tons of beef in the operation. "Obviously, during the operation, we will stop distribution of meat to distributor, and also cooperate with meat importers who still have meat stocks," she explained. 

According to her, citizens' meat needs reach 130 tons per day. Therefore, such operation is expected could offset the emptiness and high of beef's price.
