City Continues to Strengthen Coordination in Prevention and Handling of Human Trafficking Cases

The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to make efforts to prevent and overcome cases of Human Trafficking Crime. One of them is by increasing coordination in planning, cooperation, prevention, and handling.

Despite the biggest victims handled are not from Jakarta residents

West Jakarta Deputy Mayor, Hendra Hidayat said his party continues to prevent and overcome cases of Human Trafficking Crime.

"To prevent and overcome the occurrence of cases or victims of human trafficking in Jakarta, Gubernatorial Regulation No. 218/2010 became No. 64/2019 on Task Force for the prevention of Human Trafficking Crime, which is one of City's efforts to prevent and overcome the occurrence, cases or victims of human trafficking in Jakarta," he expressed, when opening a meeting of the West Jakarta Municipal Human Trafficking Task Force in the Wijaya Kusuma Room, West Jakarta Mayor's Office, Tuesday (7/18).

W. Jakarta Strengthen Its Coordination to Prevent Human Trafficking

According to him, Jakarta is the second largest receiving and transit area for victims of human trafficking after Tanjung Pinang for various purposes, and there are indications that most of the shelters for potential victims of human trafficking are located in Jakarta.

"Despite the biggest victims handled are not from Jakarta residents, the city is also responsible for dealing with the victims of human trafficking," he explained.

Based on data from Jakarta PPA Center, victims of human trafficking in Jakarta in 2022 totaled 154 people. As for victims of human trafficking in West Jakarta in 2022, there were 56 victims. As of June 2023, there were six victims of human trafficking in Jakarta, one of whom was in West Jakarta.

Most of the victims of human trafficking are children and women. Through this activity, his party hopes that members of the task force on human trafficking and related stakeholders will be able to improve coordination in the fields of planning, cooperation, and prevention. Aside that, members of the human trafficking task force must understand their role in the prevention and response to human trafficking.

This time, the Trafficking in Persons Task Force meeting was attended by 36 UKPD representatives, community organizations, including members of the PKK, filled with presentations by two speakers namely Robert B Triyana, from the national anti-trafficking network, and Firhan Tholib from paralegal service personnel at the women's and children's protection center Jakarta.
